FLAVOURED WATER/ICED TEA

Ingredients:

Fruit of choice (strawberries, raspberries, oranges – not bananas)

Big container for water, large jug. Add to this 4 teabags green tea or rooibos tea, or 4 tablespoons of the loose tea.

Fresh mint

Lemon/lime

Cucumber

Slices of a whole ginger or add ginger powder

Ice blocks

Method:

Prepare the tea 

Mash berries and stir in, or float them in water sliced

Slice lemon/lime and place few slices in jug

Squeeze orange into water and toss in the oranges

Crush mint, and put into the jug

Slice in a some cucumbers

Add the ginger

Place in fridge and steep for 24 hours

Strain and serve clear iced tea/ flavoured water with ice blocks

Other Ideas:

Pineapple and watermelon give good colour and taste

Add herbs like basil, mint, rosemary, sage, thyme, lavender.

Make around a liter at a time

Fresh fruit better than frozen

Store water/iced tea in fridge in masonry jars and leave out the ice – add when serving drink

Raspberry and lime with a sprig of mint makes a good combination

Mint and pineapple work well together

Rosemary and watermelon work well

Blackberry and sage work well

Water keeps for 3 days in the fridge

To sweeten – if necessary – add stevia or xylitol

  1. GOLDEN MILK (TURMERIC MILK)

 

Ingredients for the Turmeric Paste:

¼ cup Turmeric powder

½ t ground pepper

½ cup filtered water

 

Method:

Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan

Over medium heat, stir constantly until paste is thick

Keep in small jar in fridge

 

Ingredients for Golden Milk:

1 cup almond milk/coconut milk

1 t coconut oil

¼ t turmeric paste

 

Method for making Golden Milk:

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan

Stir constantly

Add honey to taste

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ALMOND MILK

 

Ingredients:

1 cup almonds, soaked at least 6 hours

4 cups water

2 dates

vanilla to taste

 

Method:

Drain almonds from soaking water.

Blend for 2 minutes with the 4 cups of water, dates and vanilla.

Strain liquid through a cheesecloth/fine mesh strainer.

 

PROBIOTIC/PROTEIN BANTING SHAKE

Ingredients:

1 cup organic berries – blueberries are lovely

1 cup full fat coconut milk/raw cow milk

1 heaped spoon of almond butter or other nut butter

1-2 eggs (or just the yolks – in that case add more)

1 tablespoon coconut oil

pinch Himalayan salt

2 probiotic capsules

 

Method:

Add the berries, coconut milk and almond butter to a blender. Blend on high speed until well combined. While blender is still running, add in the oil and supplements. Lastly add the eggs. Blend eggs only for a few seconds. Pour into glass and drink.

 

WARM CACAO WITH CINNAMON

Ingredients:

1 cup coconut milk/ rice milk or almond milk (See recipe on how to make your own almond milk).  Use rice milk powder and prepare according to instructions.)

1 – 2 tablespoons of cacao

1 tablespoon xylitol or coconut blossom sugar, or stevia to taste

sprinkle of cinnamon

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a blender.

Warm on stove to required temperature, but do not boil.
